Review of last week's film ("Zaytoun", 3 stars)
Steven says: One can never have enough reminders: people who are taught to hate each other can find common ground when see each other as people. Director Eran Riklis uses this theme often, and while it comes across as contrived in places in "Zaytoun", it still proves a powerful message.

Review of last week's film ("The Great Beauty", 4 stars)
Steven says: Reminiscent of Fellini's ("8 1/2"), this love letter to Rome juxtaposes the city's rich cultural history with the vapid nature of Italy's high society. From poverty to opulence, and from love to friendship, it touches on many life experiences through the eyes of an aging socialite. It leaves the viewer with many ideas to ponder.

Review of last week's (May 7) film (What Maisie Knew, 3.5 stars)
Steven says: Turmoil seems so normal to Maisie, it almost doesn't faze her. Until she finds out what life could be like without it. It's amazing that a 100-year-old story can translate almost effortlessly to the present -- and not a little scary.
